Our Unit's ASM, SGT Lee Tiara N.F, received the Unit Best Cadet award and would like to share her thoughts and thanks.
"I received the Best Unit Cadet Award during morning assembly on one of the last CCA Fridays of 2014.
On the day before the ceremony, I was notified by Ma'am Norita, our Unit's Overall In-Charge that I will receive this award. I was very surprised at the news because I was not really outspoken and confident in myself when I first joined NCDCC - I still remember myself as that young Secondary One girl even to this day. So, I decided to reflect on my NCDCC experience so far.
It was nearly three years ago when I first stood at attention as a new NCDCC recruit. Being clumsy, I made many mistakes. Thus, I did not think much of myself. My view of myself improved, but very little as I learned new skills and made new friends. Then, Secondary Two came. It was a year where our teachers and seniors trained us to eventually lead the unit. They taught us ENDURANCE, and taking RESPONSIBILITY for our decisions and actions.
2013 passed very quickly: before I knew what hit me, I was promoted to become an SNCO, and later, the ASM. Our seniors were with us for only a few CCA session before they left us on our own. There was no one to hold our hand when our seniors officially stepped down. It was our turn to lead. To lead the unit, I relied on advice from seniors and CLT Amos. I did my best, and before long, October came with a surprise.
Looking back on my time in NCDCC, I realized how much I have changed just by experiencing life. Twenty years from now, I would also look back at my NCDCC days and see the big steps I have taken, for the better I hope. I would also smile at myself.
I would like to thank my NCDCC teacher officers for guiding me and nominating me as the Unit Best Cadet. Thank you for believing in me and for giving me the opportunities to strive to become better. Thank you, Ma'am Norita, Ma'am Tan , Ma'am Do, and Sir Lim.
Before I go, I wish to share an inspiring quote that has motivated me: "everything that has happen and will happen always starts from you." No matter what happens, I need to decide whether to put in effort or not - it starts from me. I will continue to strive forward on my life's journey." --- ASM, SGT Lee Tiara N.F
